There are quite a few differences between Plasma TVs and LCDs. They are:

  • Plasma TV essentially consists of a large screen
  • Plasma TV has a improved contrast ratio
  • There is a better color exactness and saturation.
  • Enhanced motion tracking is available in Plasma TV.
  • Plasma TVs are extra vulnerable to burn-in of static images, unlike the LCD counterpart.
  • More heat is formed in the Plasma TVs than LCD’s, due to the requirement of other than phosphors to create the images.
  • Plasma TV does not do as well at elevated heights as does the LCD.
  • Plasma TV has a shorter display life span (about 30,000 hours or 8 hrs) than LCD. Recent technology has attained a performance as high as 60,000 hours.
  • LCD has no burn-in of static images like the plasma.
  • LCD creates a cooler running temperature other than the Plasma TV.
  • LCD has brighter image rather than the Plasma.
  • It has a lighter weight when compared to the Plasma counterparts.
  • LCD has a lower contrast ratio than the Plasma TV
  • LCD is not as good at tracking motion like that of the Plasma TV.
  • Although LCD televisions have no burn-in susceptibility, the single pixel may burn out. This causes small dots or white dots which appear on the screen.
